Rust

Postby Ballincollig75 » Thu Aug 23, 2018 7:34 pm

I have now had two Transit's 2004 85T260 SWB and a 2007 NT260 SWB that have failed the DOE due to Rust underneath.

I think I may buy a Connect LWB possibly 2007 next.

Does anyone know if there are Rust issue's with these unit's please.

Any other issue's to look for on these?

Thank you

Connects are known for sill problems and they do rust under the back like most things.
My 2008 has blistering sills which I extensively treated earlier this year, I'll see how long it lasts.

Also be aware of mileage and the lower timing belt in oil 'wetbelt'
These are meant to be changed at around 125-150K but there are many reports of early failures.
Wetbelt change is an expensive job but they destroy the engine if they snap.

Post 2006 should be the Siemens Tdci which is reckoned to be the better set-up.

I had to repair the upper sill panel towards the back, under where the sliding door closes (above the rear end of the chrome passenger side bar) Don't quite understand why the rust was appearing on the out-facing part of the panel though! :?: The underneath was perfectly solid! ... I would have thought that the water would have sat in the bottom?... Before replacing the metal - and after cutting out the crap bit, I squirted loads of good old Waxoyl into the void! Stank for a couple of weeks, but now smell has well gone, it should be good for quite a long time again! Top tip! :D
