1.8 TDCI Turbo change

Looking for any hints/tips/advice on changing the turbo on a 1.8tdci KKDA (lynx)

I've read that you need to change various other components and replace things such as: oil & filter, air filter etc.

I have very recently changed the fuel and air filter (genuine ford) and I did and oil & filter change the day before (literally the day before!) the turbo let go.

When I was replacing the oil filter I did notice some oil leaking from around the turbo and then the following day my wife calls me and says it's pouring blue smoke out the back and making a funny noise! So I'm assuming the turbo oil seals have gone.

My main question I guess is, is it essential to change the oil & filter given they were done the day before? Plus any other info would be appreciated!
