Temperature gauge needle light on all the time

Hi everyone, I bought a 2004 transit connect just before lockdown. Due to lockdown I haven't used it but tonight I noticed the temperature gauge needle is lit up even when engine and lights are off and van locked and stays lit all the time. Is this normal or does anyone know the reason why?
As vehicle isn't used much at the moment o dont want battery draining.
