Slow Starting / Cranking

Postby willh92 » Mon Oct 26, 2020 10:24 pm

Hi all,

Struggling with an issue with starting my mk1 1.8 tdci 2011

6-7 weeks ago the van was turning over really slowly and eventually just didn’t start. So new starter motor (known good 2nd hand one) & battery and it started perfectly straight away and has done up until the last few days.

Now it’s beginning to go the same way again, the first crank is really slow then after another one or two turns that seem more normal it fires up fine.

Could it really need another starter, or is there another issue at play here potentially?

Have a video but won’t attach, will try figure it out.

Thanks,
Will

As it's a 2nd hand starter then it's possible it could have given up, did you bench test your old one when you took it off?
I would check all leads to battery and starter and earth leads are clean and tight before trying a new starter.

Ok no problem - I’ll check them first thing. Cheers!
