Connect wet belt failure

Postby Baz22 » Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:32 am

Hi guys

New to the forum
Thought I’d ask you guys for a bit of help regarding my Transit connect belt failure
It’s a 62 plate 75 bhp 1753cc tdci connect with dpf I believe
90k on the clock

Ok so last week clatter bang wallop!!
Had a fair idea what had happened So do recovery home and started stripping down engine
Etc and as expected wet belt had let go! 90k on the clock not due for 30k! Crazy

Anyway first inspection
2 bent valves That I can see, broken cam (5 bits) and a few tappets broke and 2 piston tops badly damaged
With the other 2 with “slight” indentations

Ok so do I buy the repair parts to fix own engine?
If so what do i need and where is cheapest to buy?

or just get a second hand from the scrappy
Reasons for asking
Connect engines seem to be more expensive than say a focus engine or mondeo etc
So can I buy a different ford model engine, say a focus or mondeo or smax etc?
If so what should I be looking for
Models
Years
Engine codes
Where do I find these Engine codes On said engines ?

Cheers guys for any help

Seriously, if you cannot answer that question for yourself then can you really think you are capable of repairing/ rebuilding the motor? To rebuild it you will need a decent amount of tools, some unique to that engine. I am not too sure what engine drops in there easiest, but if you could source one I would suggest that's your best option.

I've got no idea but that sucks! What genius decided to add a belt into a case of oil. The fact its almost a grand to replace both those belts is a joke. I'm fortunate in having the one with the dry belt and a chain. But dayum. Hopefully someone can help bud
