2018 dual mass issue ...??

Postby lurchy » Tue Mar 23, 2021 9:59 pm

Hi folks .... picked up a low mileage lwb limited 68 plate in January , noticed an odd rattle on idle, off back to the main stealer under warranty today ... apparently they say it’s the dual mass flywheel. 26,000 miles seems a bit shite ... anyone had similar or any advice my way, is it common etc ... not happy !!! cheers all

I just bought a 35k mile 18 plate 120, quiet as a church mouse in that respect. I get the impression these things vary though. Just to add, annoying though it is, I don't get the impression it's a sign of imminent failure. Does the clutch seem ok in use?

Yeah it drives great , had this odd rattle seemed to be pulley side of engine , went away as engine revved but came back at idle , took it back and they say it’s dual mass flywheel , I’m no mechanic so tbh have no idea . Bit p!ssed off as it’s only done 26k

Over the years duel mass flywheels have been a problem for a lots of manufacturers I had a Fiat Doblo that had two under warranty under 40000 mls but it has now done 87000 mls and still going strong sometimes it’s the luck of the draw but at least it’s under warranty and if Ford have diagnosed it wrong and they are paying for it .

Will they do anything, or are they saying " They all do that sir "?

To be fair ,it’s booked in to be replaced , I’m hoping it’s a one off as 26k is not a lot of miles to junk a dmf
