Hesitation / Poor Throttle Response

Postby pl01 » Sun Apr 18, 2021 8:40 am

Hello All,

I have a 2006 1.8tdci and recently noticed that when accelerating in 3rd on a slip road to dual carriageway for example the engine struggles to pic up under hard acceleration, starts to hesitate and stutter over 3k. Any ideas what could be the issue?

Other than this no other issues, starts fine drives OK until you push the engine.

Thanks

Would be worth having a diagnostic code check first :!: could be any nuof possible caues. Start with a code read.

No codes stored. Def not clutch slipping, the revs do not rise, the engine is unable to increase RPM under hard acceleration when this arises.

I am wondering if this could be an injector / pump issue......the van has only done 108k

I would change that out for a start mate. Not expensive.

I've changed the filter, I noticed some oil leaking around the turbo so have replaced the hose, as thought this may have been losing boost here.

The issue is still there, but I have noticed this doesn't happen when the engine is cold, when at normal operating temp the issue presents itself when accelerating hard, still no DTC. The juddery acceleration almost feels as though the turbo is giving intermittent boost, but I would expect to hear some noise from a failing turbo / air leak. No smoke either.

Further update. EGR now blocked off, fault still exists. Suspect Injector Fault, looking to send for testing at diesel bobs.

Latest update: I found a fuel leak on the flow, the steel fuel line had a pin size hole where it had been rubbing against the subframe entering the engine bay, replaced with genuine new line. I thought I had found the culprit as assumed this must of been pulling in air causing the hesitation.

Unfortunately the issue is still here. I am a little reluctant to send the injectors off for testing as now I am getting into expensive territory parts darts, as I really do not know what else it can be other than injectors or fuel pump.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Still no fault codes stored, I find the part where this only happens when the engine is warm the strange thing, no smoke etc....so I wonder if this really is the injectors.

I believe injector no1 is at fault within 10s it was full. Off to diesel bobs for reconditioning.Image

No1 injector replaced, issue improved but still there. New leak off test over 5min as shown in attached pic. Decided to purchase further 3 injectors as no 3 and 4 showing high. Purchased genuine ford remanufactured injectors from eBay, 75 each, I really hope they are genuine as this price seems to cheap. Image
