Could be wrong about this - mk1 connect

Right at the bottom of the sill you have 3 sheets of metal coming together comprising of the outer middle and inner sill

after removing the outer sill and removing the middle sill, (too rusty to save) it appears that, why they rust so much is because they don't seem to have drain gaps on the outer sill ...the inner sill has drain gaps to the back that drains the box section above the inner sill, but nothing for the outer...so any condensate / moisture is trapped in the outer sill space.
i have the panels ..non in these either .....
so the panels are extra long for the LWB /...so im going to use the offcuts to try and practice putting a swage into them for the drainage, before i put the swages into the rest of the sill .

has anyone done this ..am i right about the lack of drainage gaps .
what i see:

outer
------------------------------------
middle
------------------------------------
inner
------ ----- ------- -------- -----

my intended way

outer
------ ----- ------- -------- -----
middle
------------------------------------
inner
------ ----- ------- -------- -----

all the best...mark
