2005 Tourneo Connect, lhd, Drivers seatbelt.

Postby Blanche » Wed Jun 23, 2021 1:32 pm

Hi folks!
My first post on here so be patient with me please. :D
I’m recently the new proud owner of a 2005 Lhd Tourneo Connect Tdci. Really pleased with the Connect, economical, nippy, spacious, ideal for me!
One problem I have is that the drivers seatbelt has been replaced with one from a Focus, which does not have the dash warning connection on it, so the dash warning light flashes all the time? The previous owner told me there is only one wire that went to the seatbelt reel, so woukd earthing it stop the light flashing? Or cause a disaster ie airbags to go off!?!
Would the seatbelts from other fords fit?
Any help appreciated people! :D

I guess as it is a LHD transit that you are not in UK? If you are, then it would be best to fit the correct one. I don't think there would be any difference between your divers side and a normal UK passenger side one. So long as it comes from the left side of the vehicle, it should fit!

Thanks for you input John, Yep, I’m in France, and parts are expensive here so hoping to get UK bits sent over if its viable since Brexit. Like you, I’m hoping a standard front left seatbelt will do the trick, but was hoping someone can tell me which other models have the warning connection fitted, or if by putting the wire to earth it’ll stop the dash light flashing  :D .

The UK 2005 connect didn't have a seat belt warning light or connection. Even if it did, the sensor would be located in the clasp, not the reel. Open to variations, but mine has no such light, nor wiring.

Thats interesting to hear, thanks Kenton. I was told by the previous owner (a friend) that the electrics were on the spool-so took his word for it, as havnt even looked yet :( , but thanks for the info. This ones got airbags, just hope the seatbelt warning isnt linked to it, or maybe its for the airbag? Although he did say it came on when the belts were swapped over. Better do some more investigating had I.

Well whipped the trim off this morning, and found this wire with a yellow fitting on the end loose behind the trim. Isnt this supposed to fix to the reel somewhere? Any advice boys? I supposed I’m going to have to get a new reel from somewhere with the right connection for this yellow ended wire?

Am I right in thinking this yellow ended wire is usually connected to the seatbelt reel( the one in it is from a focus I was told), to form part of the airbag/seatbelt circuit?
Thanks for any help you can give me. :)

Yes that is part of the pretensioner system, what light is on, airbag light or seatbelt warning light?
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

Thanks for that Liteace.
Not too sure, but its the one to the left of the black tape the previous owner put there! He’s certain its the seatbelt not the airbag causing the light to go on.

I think that's the airbag fault light :?

Does it flash a 2 digit code 3 times, and then stay on continuously :?:

It flashes 4 times then pauses, and repeats this 5 times, then stays on.
Thanks for your help.

Four times, I believe is a fault with the pre-tensioner, which may be due to the wrong belt and stalk being fitted.

Does this give you any clue of where to look:-

Have you looked at the other side setup to see what should be there?

Thanks Altransit,
I really hope you’re right!-as I’ve hopefully got the right type of reel pretensioner coming my way now,so fingers crossed that does the trick :D .
I will strip the passenger side down to compare it too, as you and others have suggested-dont know why I’ve not done that yet! . Somtimes all my rationality goes out the window thats for sure!
