Hello all,
I am a new member here, and a new Ford owner looking for advise, or a professional dedicated Ford mechanic to repair my latest company van.
I have a 2016 Ford Transit Connect Limited with a 1.6 Diesel with a really annoying fault. The van has an intermittent misfire, usually around 1750 RPM. But, can also be felt sometimes in the anywhere between 1500 - 2000 RPM too.
I have noticed grey smoke upon start up, although not too heavy. But it also has extremely heavy black smoke on acceleration while under load. (And I mean heavy jet black smoke that leaves a trail on the road).
The van also puts a puff or two of black smoke out (although not as dense) when accelerating, or cruising on the motorway when this misfire is taking place. It makes using the cruise control a bit precarious because when it happens it seems to lose power for a fraction of a second and then surge for a second after that.
I usually have the 1.7CDTI Vauxhall's which I know well after using a fleet of them for many years but, I purchased this van with 57.000 miles on to 'smoke around in' while evaluating whether to buy more of them for my contractors.
I've had the DPF cleaned which helped a little but have had many different things suggested to me by various mechanic, though none of them specialise in Fords which is what I'm searching for.
I'm no expert on these as I am new to the Connect but, it somehow feels like a fuel delivery issue Eg: wrong fuel mixture. I suppose this could be bad injector / bad air mixture / turbo of even the ECU no learning correctly. But I simply don't know?!
Could anyone on here help? I figure if you guys on a Ford / Transit specialised forum can't help me out, then no one can!
If this is a common fault and it's something that can be repaired easily then any suggestions would be gratefully received but, If there are any specialised Ford Connect mechanics on here and in the Yorkshire area who could solve this I would of course be willing to take it to them.
Thanks for reading.
Again, any help would be really appreciated.
Kind regards,
Paul (Sportssat)
