Transit connect advice

Postby timtimtim » Wed Sep 22, 2021 11:20 am

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 14 plate transit connect 200, 41k miles, and am having a couple of issues.

#1 I'm curious as I have nothing to compare it to- Is this the standard liner for the rear wheel arch or is there somthing missing?

#2 The vehicle keeps going into limp mode- no particular scenario causes it, it's happened at 30mph and national, loaded and unloaded. Restarting the engine clears the fault.
I had the codes read the first time it happened and it came up with;

P2599-00 Turbo boost position sensor stuck high.
P1303-78 EGR calibration fault.

Returned it to the dealer I purchased it from (under warranty) and they regened the DPF and gave it back- It ran MUCH better for 1000 miles or so and then the engine pitch changed and the fault came back.

Returned again to the dealer and this time they said there was no fault recorded, which is very strange.

It's still not running well- sounds 'Gassy' and I'm just waiting for it to go again

Any advice?

all i can speak for is the mk1 , there seams to be less carpet liner on yours , more areas are exposed .
Funny i cant see the spring hanger on mine ..at the same angle you took the video ..its hidden and out of view behind the sill .is yours a long wheel base?

Sorry - no idea about the engine faults

Sounds like they cleared the codes and gave it back. If it's still under warranty I would persist with the dealer. They have an obligation to you while it is still under guarantee.

Thanks for the responses- I'm definitely curious as to why, if it is missing part of the arch protector! The plastic engine cover is also missing. Not a massive deal, but strange.

I will take it back to the dealer as soon as the fault comes back on. I may also go and get the code read by someone else first, to make sure I'm getting all the info.

The dealer has said they'll refund me if the problem can't be sorted or I get sick of it, which is good of them.

I don't think you are missing anything ..its like that on the mk2 ..i looked at some pictures on google image search and found this on ebay

it's as if they want to shorten the life of them .

and i really don't understand this carpet material ..surly that's going to stay saturated all the time in the winter ..and speed rust along even more

Thanks for that image- I did have a good google but finding pics inside wheel arches is harder than it sounds!

BTW, I'm going to soak mine in "Thompson's water seal", the old version of it, not the new stuff.

My Mk1 has carpet style material in the rear arches. It was implemented on vehicles to reduce spray from the wheels and the arches in wet conditions. I'm not sure how the new version's rear arches should look, but the carpet style material is correct. Whether it is missing some parts, I wouldn't know. Personally, I clean the van all year round, and make sure to thoroughly jetwash the liners in both summer and winter. Making sure to blast the upper inside of the arch and manually clean any mud and dirt out, before jetting again. The liners can be easily removed from time to time, as well as the outer arch trim, so all other areas can be cleaned and jetted out.
