Same question again

Does the inlet manifold come off without disturbing the exhaust manifold?

looks impossible to me, looks like lower bolts are corroded ...and you would not get a socket on them .....you also have bulkhead in the way plus the egr cooler ..so don't let this picture deceive you and i dont think its a walk in the park ..it does not look that way to me .. ..its not my engine ..just a pic i found on the net

anyone with any knowledge

once or IF the exhaust bolts are out ..will i need a gasket for that .

still looks impossible though to me .looks like bolts are hidden behind the exhaust manifold ...when it was new it may have been possible ..i don't know at all.
should i give up on the idea of removing it .?

I have bought the inlet manifold gasket only at this stage .

found paul2012's advice

To remove inlet manifold on 75/90ps engines.

1. Remove EGR cooler first,
2. Unbolt CAT from manifold - Dont't forget the single bolt which bolts CAT to lower support bracket on lower crankcase. Give is a sharp tap & it will separate from exhaust manifold easily :D
3. Unbolt turbo oil feed pipe from oil cooler (just above oil filter) & bolt clamping pipe to crankcase. Unclamp turbo oil return pipe from crankcase.
4. Remove exhaust manifold complete with turbo.
5. Once clear then proceed to unbolt & remove inlet manifold.

looks like it's next years job when my tax and mot and insurance run out .

[b]so job postponed ..as it may be a bitch with rounded and seized 16 year old bolts, eating my tax mot and insurance in time .

I've done it twice on a Focus, but I'm not sure how much more or less room you have on a Connect. It did need a variety of different tools plus double jointed fingers to do it, but it's do-able.

I put a second hand EGR/Inlet on it to cure a heavy smoking problem. It made no difference so I fitted a new one in case the second hand one was as bad as mine, but it still made no difference

1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)
2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone)
2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered

I think what ill do next year, a week before i'm due to fiddle with it, is get a tyre and exhaust place to replace the nuts/studs or whatever is got holding the cat on, as they have the ramps and oxyacetylene, and it will save me, what could be a hell of a struggle - does that sound like a good idea? ..cant see it costing more than £30.

I'll buy new bolts for the exhaust manifold as well (5 bolts and 2 studs) plus gaskets and have them ready
