No exhaust or silencer but cat in place. Will it pass MOT?

Postby Malvearp » Tue Aug 02, 2022 4:15 pm

Hi all

This is most probably a daft question but here goes!

I inherited a 2002 Connect a while back. The mot has expired now, however my main worry is that there is no exhaust pipe or silencer. The close coupled cat up by the engine is still there, then this goes down to half of a flexi pipe which I'm assuming the rest of the exhaust was torn off!

Is there any way this will pass an MOT or will I need a new pipe & silencer fitted? It isn't loud at all.

Thanks in advance for any advice. :D

You don’t need a silencer but it might fail on fumes getting into the cabin space, just stick a length of pipe on with either side or rear exit.

Good aftermarket exhaust systems (cat back) are very affordable. Just get a replacement fitted. It's not worth going for an MOT with no system fitted
