Rain sensor cover hanging off - MK2 Connect

Postby Ripp » Thu Sep 29, 2022 7:17 pm

I can't get a photo of it right now because it's dark outside already but it's the piece you can see here:

https://shop.ford.co.uk/products/ford-t ... er-09-2013

It's attached nicely at the top end where it connects to the other smaller part of the assembly but the lower end furthe down the windscreen is hanging away from the screen by about 7mm. I took the whole assembly apart (3 prices) and can't see anything wrong with it, no broken clips, nothing cracked or bent etc and doesn't look like anything is missing either. The issue seems to be that there just isn't anything on the windscreen for the bottom half of this cover to clip in to?

Under the cover at the top is the what would be rear view mirror mount which the top half of the cover clips on to so that's fine but under the bottom half of the cover is just the rain sensor plus what I assume is the remote central locking receiver and that's it so the bottom half of the cover just attaches to the top half and is just left hanging there.

Am I missing something here or do I just need to stick a big ball of Blutac under there to stick it to the windscreen?

Is it possible that there's been a replacement screen fitted, and they didn't use one designed for a rain sensor?

I don't believe so, the screen has all the proper black stuff on where the rain sensor is mounted.

The plastic that's stuck to the screen is stuck to the screen perfectly, it's the plastic cover that is supposed to cover everything that's hanging off and I can't see what exactly it's supposed to clip on to because there are no clips on either part.

I think the issue is that the plastic cover just doesn't fit the curve of the windscreen, it's not fouling on anything that's under the cover and it takes a fair bit of force to push it and hold it flush with the glass. I can either try a blob of mastic behind it or I start sanding the cover so it fits the curve of the screen better.

I know absolutely nothing about these vehicles but looking at the pics of it underneath in the Ford selling page you linked, it looks like a bit of a shoe to me!

Does it not hook over one end and slide back over the sensor?

Just a thought!
