03 Connect Dash Issues

Postby Ed64 » Wed Feb 08, 2023 11:16 am

Hi Everyone… I’ve recently encountered a strange problem with my 2003 Connect dash gauges, the speedo has stopped working along with the odometer lcd and clock etc not showing, rev counter oddly is still working but fuel gauge and temp gauges both seem to be stuck at about quarter way. Can anyone clarify what the problem is as I’m guessing others here have probably had or known of similar issues? Many thanks Ed

YES a some of the connects have had this problem including quite a few normal transits mk6 and 7.
Due to poor circuit boards and bad solder joints ( would not be supervised if due to woke lead free solder)

Try this first:

if no good ..you need to send them away for repair (search all the sections on mk6 and mk7 and here for recommendations for repairers , as i don't know any)

Follow this thread to see outcome. (says he sent clocks off to someone offering lifetime warranty

Or you can buy a second hand unit that may or may not be good.

ive got a 2006 200 Dswb with intermittent dash speedo and lights problems. do i need to do all that in the "try this first" to remove the clocks to get to the circuit board? ie prizing the needles off etc?

Really depends on how confident you are .the fact that you are asking says ..not

So i would send them off, if you're not attempted anything similar and been successful.

Here's a previous answer I've given ..

Concerning connect mk1 - faults were due them being built with weak soldered joints done with Lead-free solder.
The cure was to send the whole instrument cluster to a specialist company for repair.

Of the many things it could be: there have been issues with the clocks , internal; circuits and soldered joints ...sometimes a thump on the dash above would prove that this is the issue ..as the clocks would then flicker or come on .

Well this is only one, of many choices, and that is : you have is to take out the cluster and send it to:

https://www.ecutesting.com/
(please read the website on how they operate this service, i believe they will send you a box to put it in .)

This is one of many companies that perform this service ...the above one, as far as i can make out, from feedback here on this forum, is one of the trusted ones.

Total cost will be in the region of £70. (check the websites prices)

Hope this helps.

well i took it out, prizing the needles off without damage was the hardest part. done this a few times before on classic motorcycle speedos tachos. looked at the soldered joints and they appear to be perfect.
but looks can be deceiving. ive never had success with what i call micro soldering. i dont seem to be in control and the solder flows where it wants and not where i want.

ive seen replacements for £30 uppwards.
if i fit a used one will it work straight away or will i have to "code it " to my vin etc?
