New Transit Connect Owner 2017 - few questions

Postby Travs » Mon Nov 06, 2023 10:40 am

Hi all,

I've tried searching for various aspects over the internet and here but struggling to find what I'm looking for.

Picked up the above, SWB panel van which has 29k miles on it so plenty of life left in hopefully. Poverty spec but I'm fine with that - less to go wrong! The previous owner didn't seem to care about it however, and put 700miles a year on for the last 2 years. Also, its my first van so plenty of inexperience. My questions are:

1. Double clicking the remote doesn't do anything and I can open from inside - this means there are no deadlocks on it?
2. I'm getting a Rear Passenger Door Open warning when turning to ignition. When you open the slide door, the cabling down below to the right has clearly taken a knock so need to replace that but I cannot seem to find exactly what I need - what do I search for?
3. Courtesy light stays on when set to door - presume this is because the van thinks one of the doors is open?
4. No mirror adjustment (blanking plate on interior next to window switches) - presume I just move the mirror glass manually with my hands and that's it?
5. Front brakes have been done, but the rears have been flagged for every MOT of its life so I'll need to do them - particular tough or expensive or relatively straight forward change? Manual handbrake
6. Weird light setup when I close/lock it. Sidelights stay on as like courtesy lights but they stay on for about 5 minutes? Except for sometimes when they don't come on at all, usually after had the headlights on I think. No auto lights but I can't find what I'm doing to keep them from turning on (that's what I'd prefer tbh).
7. I'm using the van for Mobile Valeting and Paint Detailing (so inside is 280 litre tank of water, petrol generator, pressure washer inside). I'm going to get Hooklocks, driver's door loom guard, replacement driver's door lock and an alarm, is that sufficient or is there anything else that I've missed? I presume I'll need to get the door sensor sorted otherwise the alarm will continue to go off...

Sorry for the massive post - just wanted to get everything out in one!

Cheers in advance,
Lee
