2016 1.5 TDCi not starting

Postby silvermint » Thu Dec 21, 2023 1:57 pm

Hi...I have a 2016 Connect 1.5 tdci that broke the cam belt. I just rebuilt everything but cannot for the life of me get it to start. In my efforts to bleed it I have drawn fuel out of the filter outlet till it ran clear but when i try to draw it from the return from the mechanical pump the fuel wont flow. Using a vacuum pump I am getting about 2" of diesel up the line and thats using a lot of vacuum. It seems the fuel is held back. Can anyone shed any light on this or offer any advice? Thanks in advance.PS. I tried the dreaded easy start and it ran for a few seconds on that.

2016 1.5 TDCi not starting

Postby silvermint » Thu Dec 21, 2023 2:33 pm

Hello... I have a 2016 Connect 1.5 tdci that I cannot get to start after reconditioning the head. In my efforts to bleed the fuel I have used a vacuum pump to draw the fuel from the filter outlet till it ran clear. The problem I have is when I try to draw fuel from the return on the pump. It seems to be stuck. It draws about an inch up the line but I cant get a flow. Has anyone come across this?

Thanks.

assuming .. its not buggered the cam shaft lobes by spinning them on the shaft ..this engine- Peugeot/ford design - when the belt snaps sometimes does just that..as the lobes are a press fit on the shafts ..if that's happened you have to buy a new cam carrier and cams as complete unit to sort it out .

if all well is on that front ...we will look at that first .

Hi Mark

thank you for the reply.

You are correct as the lobes had spun on the cam shaft. I fitted a new cam along with valves.
Thankfully I have since found my issue. I removed the crank sensor, cleaned it and refitted it and it started straight away. (I have since ordered a diagnostic tool)

The saga doesn't end there though....engine is running perfectly and all seemed fine till I went to drive it. The front right and left rear brakes are sticking. Seems to be an ABS issue from a bit of online research. :?

well it depends on how long it was off the road ..perhaps just requires dismantling and the slider pins greased

Yes the diagnostic software ..Forscan with Elm interface ..may tell you what is going on

This software, you do not buy --- it is free ..and I'm told if you want the interactive features, there is as small charge for a period of use .

Had cam belt failure. Replaced all valves, seals and rockers but cannot get the thing to start. Worried I may have cam timing 180 out or cam lobes have moved. Anyone have any advise, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Is there a service interval for replacement of the cambelt ?
