Wiper arm spring rubbing on windscreen

Postby iain walters » Wed Mar 20, 2024 1:46 pm

Hi

I recently had the windscreen replaced on my ford transit connect, And a couple of days have passed now and we have had some rain, i noticed a scraping noise when my wipers were on so i stopped to take a look. the driver side spring on the wiper arm is rubbing along the screen when in operation.

Can the nut be overtightened holding the wiper arm? should it be torqued to a certain value?

The nut itself is not loose which was my first thought thinking that the arm hadn't been secured properly.

Can only give you an answer for mk1 ..as that's all i have to check

There are only three possible ways that the spring can drag on a mk1

1 .Arm is now bent after windscreeen fitter damaged it
2. Rivet that holds hinged part together broken
3. Spring has broken

all the best.mark
