Buying 2016 Transit Connect - what should I look to for?

Postby Luke in Bournemouth » Fri Apr 12, 2024 8:14 pm

Hi people
I'm going to look at a 2016 Ford Transit Connect Trend 240 1.6tdci Tomorrow land. I'm not great mechanic so I'd be really grateful or any advice as to what to look out for

It's got 10 months MOT
120k
Full Service History
Cambelt & Waterpump Replaced
Electric Heated Mirrors/ Heated Windscreen/ Handsfree connectivity / DAB Stereo / Electric windows / Multi function steering wheel
HPI Clear
It's £6.25K which I think is a good price, yes?

Any pointers as to what to check would be much appreciated

I've never had a Connect long enough to find any downsides, they've all been reliable in the short time that I've driven them.

I can say that the 1.6TDCi seems to be bullet proof and reliable if you keep it regularly maintained, and change the (dry) timing belt at around 100k miles. I have four of these in various family cars, mileages ranging from 200k down to 110k, and they're all going strong. They do have a dual mass flywheel which can fail prematurely (85k on one of mine) and that can cost anything from £800 - £900 to replace (inc clutch and cylinders).

I don't currently have a Connect, so hopefully someone else can chip-in :)
