Is it possible to change mileage in ECU in 2014 connect ?

Postby Barney778 » Thu Sep 19, 2024 4:39 pm

Hello everyone,

recently I sold my 2014 Transit Connect 1.0 EcoBoost and now the new owner is asking for money and threatening to sue me because he found out that total mileage in ECU is 100k km higher than mileage on odometer. I am fourth owner of this vehicle and I did not know about this. Car mileage history checks out and my car mechanic also thinks it seems suspicious based on which parts were replaced and overall condition of the vehicle. Is it possible to change total mileage on this model in ECU and other systems so it is not detectable ? Or is there some place which can't be tempered with ? I am asking to make sure that the new owner did not change mileage himself to ask for money.

Thank you for any info

Don't know where you are?

in the UK its possible and free, to go to this government site, enter the registration number and see its mileage history ..which would prove its genuine. Or not

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

if you are in another country you could use - a paid service -"Car Vertical" to prove this OR not.

i don''t know what keeps the score, the instrument cluster or the BCM / PCM ..if either has been changed there will be a history in them... or his scanner code reader or PC laptop or even phone is wrongly set and reading in kilometers OR MILES OR he is using "car vertical" or UK GOV site and he can see the differences.

Is it just a case of confusion?

The speedometer keeps the distance as mileage, and the BCM stores it as Kilometres which is obviously a higher number.

Thanks for your replies. I am from Czech Republic and I checked car vertical and it seems ok and there is no value lower than the previous one. Buyers argument is that someone in the past changed mileage before each inspection, so it wouldn't show in these reports and he had to used some expensive diagnostics to get the "real" mileage from ECU or some other unit. I sold him the car with 214k km on odometer and he is saying that diagnostics shows 317k km so I guess its not unit conversion issue.

Car vertical shows the mileage / kilometers at each inspection every year, as a graph, if all KM's genuine, the graph line steadily climes from left to the right..anything reversing the kilometers will be shown on the graph ..as a downward line. if correct and no downward line, i don't see how the new owner can argue against that.

Sounds like the new owner may be trying it on.

Ask them to prove the extra mileage. The value of a 2014 Connect with 317,000km won't be much lower than one with 214,000km anyway.

At that mileage you would buy on condition. And the buyer must have been happy with it on handover.

The O/P has gone. l wonder if he managed to find out what happened or sort things out with his buyer.
