Transit Connect 2018 Battery Light

I have a 2018 Transit Connect.

The battery light has started to on come everytime I start the van after 30 seconds.

I have checked the charging circuit. It is running at 14.8v from start up and doesn’t change at all once the light comes on.

I have removed the connector on the alternator and checked it is not broken. The connector only has 1 pin on it. It was a little green on the terminal but not bad at all.

Has anyone else had this same fault or any pointers?

I disconnected the connector and started the van but light goes out and comes back on after 30 seconds when it’s connected or not.

I presume with just one terminal on the connector that it doesn’t have smart charging?

Just to update I fitted a new battery however it has not fixed the problem

2018 has a smart alternator -- of which i know nothing .

read the owners book - lots of quirky things you may not know, is a start

if it has stop/start ..then maybe the light is telling you that there is not enough power for stop start ..note think its 80 percent battery capacity left then it disables stop start. perhaps this light may indicate that it cant keep up.. which may mean a new battery ....or more longer trips to charge battery.........so best read the owners manual.


You could still try an earths and positives service ..which will involve taking them off battery terminals and body attachment points wire brush them and then, hope for the best.

For anyone else with same issue, I resolved this issue by replacing the alternator.

Even although it was charging ok, there must have been some communication issue from it to the pcm causing the light to come on dash
