Weird bubbling in Transit Connect engine

I’ve just bought this 2013 Transit Connect 1.8 Manual. Seems to be driving fine but lots of white smoke on startup, which clears. I’ve noticed this weird bubbling. What is this part of the engine and how screwed am I?

There is a return pipe to the reservoir, what you hearing is fluid being pumped back, recirculating etc .

noises to worry about are: loud shrieks, whines etc

You can if you are enthusiastic change the power steering fluid if it looks dark red to black

This is not on the fords service schedule..but i recon it should be done maybe every 6 years or 60,000 miles

It's not a bubbling noise, I can see liquid bubbling out and looking further, I think it's the EGR gasket passing, I'm not sure if it's been blanked or not. I'll get a new gasket and see if that stops it, looks fairly easy to change.

i missed the little globule of something coming out of the gasket , because i mistakenly thought i was instructed to listen to it.
anyway ..new gasket will solve that

white smoke on start may be as simple as condensation in this weather ...if it does it on a warmer day, say: plus 15 degrees .....then you start worrying.
