My 90ch connect run like a 115ch and its a surprise

Postby djimdjim » Sun Mar 23, 2025 6:58 pm

Hello everyone!

Let me introduce myself—I'm Jim, from France. I'm reaching out to you because I just bought a 2006 Ford Transit Connect 90hp (manufactured on 12/01/2006, to be precise), but I have a concern. The van is a rocket! Let me explain—it runs way too strong for a 90hp engine. I'm certain it has been remapped. It’s actually quite fun and enjoyable, but I have some doubts about its long-term reliability.

So, my question is: is this setup reliable? As far as I know, the 110hp and 90hp engines share the same engine block, but what about the injectors and turbo? If the only difference is the ECU mapping, then I’ll leave it as it is. But if certain parts aren’t designed to handle the extra power, I might consider restoring it to its original state.

Thanks a lot to anyone who can provide me with some insights! :D (And thanks to ChatGPT for the translation ^^)

Not many gurus here ..the fellow who was (Paul) ..rarely visits now

Have a read of this ..near end of article, says there is one with 125ps , so looks like it can take it. well it could take it when new. at 2006 and 19 years old - think again

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_DLD_engine#DLD-418

Think as long as you DONT HAMMER it at over 85 mph (136 km per hour) for mile after mile - (km after km on your Autoroutes) it should be ok .
IF the EGR has been deleted - If you look up how EGR's work - read and to maybe worry about , that if you are doing prolonged high speed runs above 85mph (136 km per hour) ..that is if the EGR as been blocked off (deleted) ..because ive heard that the engine was designed with this device in place and it has a cooling effect to the combustion.

General guessing- if tuned without a injector upgrade ..it could run lean and burn piston..but only if you are doing the prolonged high speed activity.

its up to you .use the upgrade ..for fast overtaking but NOT prolonged very high speed runs

NOTE - bare this in mind before you start using all its available BHP - being a 2006 model - 19 years old ......will mean that its due for a major coolant flush ---

note - very possible :
19 year old head gasket
19 year old hoses
19 year old water pump
19 year old oil cooler
19 year old radiator
19 year old thermostat
19 years of sludge
19 year old seals

all the best.mark

Hello Mark, thank you very much for your response, I really appreciate it :D . That already gives me a lot of interesting info. I'll check out your links and take a look at the EGR valve.

Take care and all the best!
