Mk1 2003 1.8tdci NON-START, cranking but no fuel

Postby Bigdog84 » Wed Aug 06, 2025 8:04 pm

Hi. Can anyone help please.
Car drove to work ok one morning, bit sluggish, lack of power.

Came back to car after work, immobiliser light flashing fast… engine will crank over but does not start, there is NO FUEL at the main feed to the fuel filter.

if the ignition is left on, it will produce the LED code of 2 then 3. Which i believe is a faulty ECU code. For what ECU i am unsure. I had the fault codes of P1664 and P1564. Fuel pump malfunction.

Is the fuel pump controlled by the PCM or is it the fuel pump control unit? If so where is the fuel pump control unit located?

I also have the code data mismatch due to a second hand instrument cluster being fitted 6 months ago. Code B2139. Unsure if this is relevant.

Please can someone give us a clue, thank you very much in advance!

your fault code -refers to the hi pressure diesel pump ...mounted on the top of the pump is the EDU, also called EDC - this is an electronic module that controls the pump
it is common for these edu / edc modules to fail and bring up the codes you listed

Check wiring first and fuses .

No faults found..then do this to get it repaired.

Put the following phrase's into ebay

PUMP EDC transit

or

PUMP EDU transit

now there is only one vendor left doing it at £89, last time i did this , only two years ago there were lots and as low as £50.

instructions from listing

Remove EDC module from pump without causing damage to the IAT Sensor or Solenoid Wires)

CLEAN the EDC Module (We do not accept soiled modules in for repair, if you send a dirty EDC, it will be returned untested)

Place the EDC in a small Jiffy Bag ONLY (Do NOT send it in old brake pad boxes, clutch repair kit boxes, food storage containers, etc, do NOT wrap it in dirty old rags, towels, blue roll, bubble wrap, or any other rubbish you wish to dispose of, The EDC module is strong and tough, it does not need excess packaging, its unnecessary!

Write your Name, Address, Telephone number and the Vehicle Details which the EDC came off onto a piece of paper, and include it with your EDC when sending into us for repair.
...................................................................................................................

and there is another company ..called ecutesting.com on the net, who want you to send the whole pump and be charged over £200
