Mk1 connect extreme shaking

Hi guys,

Picked up an other connect as a run about and straight away noticed that between 45-55mph in 4th and 5th gear the van feels like it is on square wheels. The shaking is extreme!

Other than that no shaking or vibrations.

Steering wheel doesn’t shake and clutch pedal doesn’t shake, am I looking at DMF failure?

New clutch going in this week anyway but any other issues I should check that could cause this while on the ramp?

if talking mk1, Only Connects with a build date between 05/2002 & 08/2002 were fitted with DMF.
note build date not registration date

could be drive shafts
or flats on tyres,
distorted bulging tyres,
buckled rim
loose wheel nuts
engine mounts

these are what you want to check - all of them would be felt through steering wheel except maybe engine mounts

Had this problem, wheel out of balance

If it was standing around before you bought it, you may have a tyre (or two) that has a 'flat' where it was standing, and more than likely, a rear one, if you can't feel anything through the steering wheel.
Try swapping front to back and see if anything changes, or swap in a spare

As soon as I ease off throttle it stops the shaking without really lowering the speed which makes me think it isn’t tyre related

this is had to diagnose from an arm chair as could be so many things

another thing to check but as its a while since u posted check the gearbox mount the rubber can split

inner Cv joint, had the exact same issue on my mk1, if i stopped, put it on full lock and drover a few circles it would ease off for a while cos i hade a dry/worn spot in the inner CV.
