2019 Transit Connect LTD edition 1.5tdci

Postby cricky22@hotmail.com » Mon Jun 15, 2026 4:06 pm

Hi, New to the forum.

I have a strange little noise and was wondering if anyone on here has come across this for this engine model. Is it normal for these engines or anyone any ideas as to the cause or its location? It totally disappears if you add a slight touch to the accelerator say 50rpm, only 49k on the clock

Any opinions greatly appreciated it may be normal i don't know for this engine type. Sorry wouldn't let me add video.

Open the bonnet, with it running and making the noise try holding the tube that goes into air filter housing, goes towards the slam/landing panel.

The tube splits / rattles and can be very noisy at idle

The only other noise is a light intermittent rattle / tapping that sounds like it’s from the bellhousing / gearbox area
This is the DMF and normal, some need a plastic cover fitting up back of engine to quieten it slightly, but it’s not really a fault, and even replacing DMF will NOT cure it.

Thanks Frag, The little noise at idle sounds in around the front end, I've removed the Aux belt and noise remains. By applying 50 rpm its clear. Noise only at idle... It had a timing belt and water pump done and FAI cam mod done and I'm just concerned if it in that area. Some one told me its normal but i couldn't listen too it at idle. i was thinking of increasing the idle by 50 rpm to remove it but i may just be masking an potential issue but the van drives like new and only 50k,

Sounds very like a heat shield to me .. these things resonate at certain frequencies, they have a habit of corroding around the fixings that hold them on .. then they begin to vibrate with the engine often at certain revs.

Another thing that happens with them , sometimes you cant tell where the sound is coming from .. ones to the rear may sound like coming from the front.

here's where they are on your connect

it sounds like a power steering pump .. but looking at catcar.info .. it does not have one

so it may be a jockey wheel tensioner on the aux belt or cam belt

if cambelt - one of these two mid way up the belt diagram

http://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l= ... EzMw%3D%3D

deleted the links to aux belt because you've already tested for that

NOTE:
cant be 100 percent certain, as this is remote diagnoses, a mech would have a large screw driver to his ear and be placing it .. maybe dangerously (for you) on or near spinning parts

That rules that out.. Thanks Mark. you know anyone else that maybe heard that noise. I'm think of increasing the RPM by 50rpm to remove it. maybe just masking it but someone says its normal for those engines.

as far as the sound goes
well i can tell you i hear the same exact sound coming from mine and that sound is the power steering pump... and yours does not have one

so very hard to make a diagnoses .. if everything is telling me it sounds the same as an ancient 1.8 ... only i can only hear it with my head above it in the engine compartment .. cant hear it with the bonnet closed or from within the vehicle.

the sound i'm hearing in mine is normal though .. and may or may not be as loud
