Water ingress, side loading door ?

Postby johnnyboy007 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:10 am

Have just bought a 53 plate transit connect and it has wet carpet down the passenger side and a little puddle in the footwell.
Has anyone any idea if this is a common fault and where the water maybe getting in thru ?

Ditto! I was just going to post up a similar problem. My drivers seat and part of the floor is piss wet through (it actually looks like someone has sat in there and took a piss the way the stain appears! :D) , by the looks of it the headlining is soaking in the rear corner just above the drivers seat. I originally thought it may be the door seal but it appears to be coming in from higher up so i guess it is coming in from the roof rack front mounting bolt right above. Any advise on removing the headlining anyone and any advise on sealing it?

Thanks

E30, yours is easy :D Take out the roof rack mounting grommit, clean it up, then refit it with some sealer round it, simple as that, you dont want to get involve with breaking the trim clips for the headlining

Johnnyboy, not quite so easy  It might be coming in through the pollen filter housing (under the passenger side bottom windscreen trim) people have a habit of leaving the little metal drip shield out and water goes straight into the heater box!!
Other places are, the windscreens were sometimes stuck in with gaps in the sealer, but not very common plus the screens usually would have cracked by now  , but the most common is under the NSF wheel arch liner, there is a multiplug that goes through the inner wheel arch, that lets water in or I have also seen under the bonnet hinge on the passenger side, the sealer gets missed or partially sealed where the inner arch joins the bulkhead allowing the water to flood in between the panels then it comes out where the multiplug fit the arch!!

Hope that give you both something to look at :P
I miss my 'courtesy van'............140 Glx..now a Jumbo :(
