Speed Limiter Connect

Postby flanserve » Mon Feb 04, 2008 10:56 pm

I know there is a post about speed limiters on this forum but...... I just bought an ex British Gas Connect and it is limited to 120KPH (approx 77MPH!)
Can anyone confirm for definite if they are governed by the original ECU or is there an aftermarket governor fitted??
The reason I ask is that I checked with my friend, who is a Ford Main dealer warranty manager, and his tech guy doesn't think it is a Ford item! He has NOT seen the van as he is over 200 miles away!
As a matter of information re above I am in Southern Ireland and we do not have (for obvious population reasons) fleets the size of the UK and the motorway infrastructure to warrant speed limiting the vehicles. So, it would not be unreasonable to assume the tech guy may NOT have seen an original Ford governor/Speed limiter. This he freely admits may be the case!!
Any clarification on above would be helpful and advice on how to sort would be gratefully received! :D

Its to do with how the ECU is configured, so yes its a Ford limiter (or should be :P )

Its a simple job of connecting up WDS/IDS, then de-activating the speed limiter through the 'programmable perimeters'
I miss my 'courtesy van'............140 Glx..now a Jumbo :(

Thanks for that!

Will pass it on to the local dealer!

be aware because the connect is over 2 tons it is subject to the same speed limits as a full size van
ie:
50 on single carrigeways
60 on dual carrigeways
70 on motorways

it maybe car derived but ford have f##ked up by making it 2.25 tons unladen , where as most others inc citreon and the like are under

Oh aye... if you get snapped (like I did) doing 63 in a 60 by a number-plate reading van, you WILL get a ticket. The bas**rds know it's a van, so they know it should be doing 50...
I'm thinking of asking for a Tourneo when my Connect hits 5 years (June this year) - same size, can carry much the same (anyway I rarely get anywhere near 900Kgs - though I did once accidentally have 1.3 tonne on board!), but not subject to speed limits. Phucking stupid, isn't it...
Connect-ed since 2003... now in a 2014 T240 115PS Ltd.

Thankfully we don't have those silly rules (YET!) about different speed limits on vans.....except when you get to the Jumbo Tranny and up.
As my missus will be driving the Connect I don't think it will be breaking a lot of speed limits anyway
Although....... she has been "done" for speeding more than me
The main reason for getting rid of the limiter is that I don't like electronics (or anyone) telling me what to do!!

I don't think thats right. My user manual says the Connect (SWB) is 1415kg unladen, with a 825kg max payload (which would take it to 2240kg max laden weight).

Yes you're right :D

BUT the lower speed limits apply to goods vehicles over 2 tonnes Laden weight (or GVW) not unladen as Keith said

1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)
2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone)
2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered
