Connect 230 engine pre heater

Postby Bmydm » Mon Mar 03, 2008 10:38 pm

Hi I am trying to fit a Webasto engine pre heater to my Connect 230 TDCi 04 plate.
I need to couple the flow and return into the heating system just prior to the cab heater matrix but I am having a little trouble finding out which way the coolant flows around the system. Any ideas on which is the flow in through the bulkhead to the matrix or how would be the best way to find out.

Hi,

I can't find anything in the Ford TIS on coolant flow diagram  but what I can subject is to start the engine from cold and see which hose coming out of the bulkhead gets warm the quickest. Keep the heater controls in the red in the vehicle and the fan on full as this will cool the water down in the heater matrix so you should be able to tell which one is the coolest.

 If You have trouble telling which ones the coolest, then put a cheap battery powered fridge thermometer or similar with a separate temperature probe, put it on the hoses alternatively and see which ones the hottest.

The hottest one is is the flow in, the coolest the flow out or return.

 The above is only an idea, It may or may not work, but the theory is sound,

That did the trick. Thanks for the tip. One got much hotter than the other.

Anyone know how the heat control works does it regulate the fluid or divert the air flow. if it regulates the fluid is ther a bypass or does it stop the flow to the matrix.

Getting closer to a solution.

Here's a drawing of the heater controls
They are fly by wire. to see if there is three hoses or two. I think there will be only be two and that the electric actuator diverts internally to the return line.
Again it is worth just looking under the dash at these
