Electrically operated wing mirrors not working on 03 Connect

Postby daycm1 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 4:59 pm

Hi there,

I have an 03 plate Transit Connect TDCi LX model 220.
I have just recently purchased this but the electrically operated wing mirrors are not working! I have checked the fuse and this seems to be fine. If not the fuse could it possibly be the actual switch which controls them or could it be something more serious? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Day :)

i had the same trouble with mine, take out the switch from the door panel, they just prise out,and take it a part and you will see why, mine was corroded away as they get water in them when the windows are open or the door is open when raining.

try a switch of a mondeo or a fiesta, escort and all will be well(2 quid from scrappy or 19 from fyords)

Well I tried the new switch, a brand new one from Ford but to no avail!
I'm not sure what else to try now, I checked the fuse agin and seems fine.

Has anyone else had similar problems with their wing mirrors on a connect with a new switch and fuse but stillnot working?
Could it be the wiring or the mirrors themselves?

Any help again would be great.

Thanks,
Day

Anyone had this same issue before.
New switch, new fuse but no working mirrors!

Could they be linked to the whole van electrics?
I guess I might have to take it to Ford to get it looked at.

Any help in the meantime would be fantastic.

Cheers,
Damo

Im not having any joy in getting the wiring diagram picture, so I will try and explain it to you!!

Fuse 47 in the CJB (glovebox) is the feed to the switch, there should be a 12 volt feed to the mirror switch on pin 6. Pin 4 on the switch should be an earth.
Pins 1,2,3,5&7 should be live or earth depending if you are pressing up/down, left or right
The wires then run from the switch through 2 connectors, (mirror multiplug & door loom multiplug) to the mirrors, so I would check you are getting lives/earths from the switch then at the mirrors and if none at one of the plugs, check back between the connectors to eliminate where the fault is

p.s. pin 4 on the mirror connector is live feed for the heated mirrors (fuse 50 in the CJB) and pin 5 at the mirror connector is earth

Hope that helps a bit ( if it makes sense  )

Thanks again, I will check this out tomorrow and let you know how I got on.

Yeah it does make sense and I'll test everything that you mentioned.

Right, finally had the chance to look at this!

Did what you said Coconut about testing from the fuse box up to the switch and that works fine. Tested the switch operations and they all work fine too. Got to the mirrors and didn't have th right tool to get inside but I have got one now so tomorrow morning will see me getting the mirrors off and seeing what's going on there.

Also discovered that the heated part does not work either! Slowly coming to the conclusion that it is the mirror after all!
We'll see tomorrow once I test them.

Will let you know as soon as I do.

Thanks again for all your help.

Damon.

Just a thought, do you realise the connector for the mirror is behind the door trim :?:

Nope!! Haha. Sorry I'm not very good with these!
Ok so connector behind door trim, test it to there as well and then go to the mirror if need be? Obviously could of been disconnected some point in it's life too. I'll check that first.

Thanks again Coconut,
D :D

Hi,

Well just as I thought, it seems to be the mirrors! Checked the connector behind the door trim and all works fine and up to the mirrors! Oh well least it isn't anything electrical in the van itself. Just got to find some replacement mirrors now I guess.
Thanks for all your help Coconut and once I have got my new mirrors I'll let you know how I got on.

Thanks again,
Damon.
