Remap on 75ps, worth it?

Postby stuntmonkey » Mon Mar 31, 2008 7:39 am

I like the van and don't want to make the fuel economy worse, but more torque can't be a bad thing! I drive it very steady, aiming for good mpg, rarely venturing above 3000, normaly around 2000 about town, has anyone got any real experience on this engine. All the info i read seems to be advertisement...

In my humble opinion, your drive down from Bradford would be well worth the effort and time. Martyn may well be able to meet you somewhere on route if you ask 8)

The tuning kit he has is the pukka kit for the job, and on top of all that he is a really nice guy  :D

Bump.

How does getting a van tuned affect insurance please?

If I go for the eco retune, is that going to a) push my premium up or b) give my insurance company a reason to use their big red "CLAIM REJECTED" stamp?

thanks in advance.

Martynx- do you give discounts for forum members? ;)

Hiya, you should find a minimal increase in premiums , if any , some companies dont mind some mods at all.. i havent heard anything concrete though on ecotunes on vans , as i think most forget to tell them ! the remap certainly is invisible to anyone other than a tuner.. :)

Regarding discounts , i am currently one of the lowest priced remapper , and as far as i know, the only van specialist !

I have my i-map units available now, if your confident using a PC then you can get one of them & we can remotely remap your van, the process takes a bit of explaining so please call me if your interested on the mobile - 07956 555 666 - Martyn

im seriously considering having my connect tdci 90 done! but ive got a full rack on top and a couple of sets of ladders :? so im a bit worried about the gains wouldnt i just burn more fuel due to the extra drag ive got :?: and another question ive got is would it benefit getting the van de-catted and a decent air filter done before the map or after :?: i de-catted a hdi 306 and it made a huge improvement alone 8) at the moment my connect with all the extra drag is on par with a low roof connect tddi 75 with no roof rack!! :( and im lucky to see 300 miles to a full tank  so if it would help on mpg it sort of makes it a investment! is that correct? cheers

I can get good power gains from a 90tdci connect .. :)

the cat isnt needed for UK mot's so dump it, it only restricts the van & raises temps.. before or after remap is fine but if your after best MPG , its best to do one mod at a time , monitor the difference & only then do another mod.. if you want to come to me for a tweak after some mods that s fine, there may a few more HP to be found once the inlet & exhaust are de-restricted

also sounds patronizing but think about the speed at which you press the gas pedal, & play with backing off a tiny bit & seeing if you can maintain the same MPH, those 7mpg arctic lorries are having this type of driver training at the mo in the uk & are getting great results.. 10% better MPG for them often means 3k a year saved !

Finally i have no figures on connect mpg improvements yet after a remap , I am awaiting some feedback from some ones i did last month but by raising mainly torque via a remap you should get better mpg with ladders or towing etc.
