off to buy a connect 2moro

Postby sparkyork » Thu Jul 10, 2008 1:34 am

hi everyone was wondering if i could get a bit of advise on tranny connects!

im looking at spending upto 5k on one and specifically after the lwb version, found a load around the york area (60 miles) via autotrader.

is there a year or mileage to be wary about? im trying to stray away from 100k miles ones, but again not sure if i need worry about the mileage if its got the service histiry?

also when i go looking 2moro anything i should check out, engine, suspension etc.

also unsure whether to go for the tddi or tdci, is there any probs i could encountor on either one?

i know i sound like im worrying but im just a typical tightarsed sparky who dont wanna get ripped!!!

cheers

Hi

I've recently brought myself a 53 plate T220 lwb 75ps TDDi connect, see pics in gallery section, and love it :D

Mine had 62k on the clock and cost me £5800 minus £500 trade in on my old Combo van :)

The TDDi is less powerful then the TDCi models and can not be made to make as much power as the TDCi models, but they are better on fuel according to Ford!?

I dont involved in the price side of things, but I can help with the what to look for :P

Check front tyres for wearing on the inner edge (they all do, so just keep an eye on them)
Rear tyres for any disfigurement
Rear anti-roll bar brackets can snap off the rear beam axle (not all connects have anti-roll bars :!: and the metal has been changed from 4mm to 5mm now  )
Engine oil leaks around sump/timing chain area
If the timing belt has been changed (150k/10years upto 04/2006 or 75k/10years after 04/2006)
Check the interior lights work properly and the 'lights on' buzzer works
Check for any vibrations when accelerating

Thats the main things I can think of, so good luck :D

It was from 1/4/2004 to 31/10/2004 for the tank strap recall, thats build dates rather than reg dates though :!:

When you get one, let us have the reg or chassis number and we can check for any outstanding recalls etc

cheers cocunut, the reg is se54 swx, chassis number: wfouxxttpu4k72353

well the van seems nice so far!! it was a little quiter when first started but after a 180 mile journey i noticed a slightly different noise, its a noise that increases with revs external to the engine, not 100% but it sounds like something on the belt side of things bit like a squeeking noise but not, if you know what i mean!! after leaving her for a couple of hours and starting her up again, she was quiet then this wierd noise slowly emerged again? any ideas?

also ive drove a few trannies in my time but was wondering theres seems to be like some sort of high freaquency rattley noise when accelerating between 1500 to 2500 revs, didnt hear any vibratin noises as cocunut said but get this noise, but then just about every tranny ive drove makes this noise!!

also! ive been checking the shistiry and its 5k overdue on its anual service, so im gonna get it booked in at polar ford in york 2moro. in the service logs as well there have been no ticks in the major service boxes and it should of had two buy now (unless it has and they simply havnt ticked the box?) ill ring the ford garage that did it and ask them 2moro as well.

well thats it for this post, if someone can shed a bit of light any the above comments and my other post about warranties i would be very grateful.

cheers

The reg goes in but cant check for any recall etc at the minute, will check again later

The noise might just be the alt belt gone a bit dry and becomes noisey when warmed up or it could be a tensioner/idler doing the same

The rattle sounds like the usual connect gearbox thrash, nothing to worry about but just mention it when you get the service done to get the techs opinion on it :!:

Now you need to get some pics of it on here :D

Mine also rattles from low revs when I plant the throttle, seems to come from the front n/s of the van, but will disapear if I lift off slightly. Thought at first it might be the Turbo!! But power is ok and no smoke etc so it may well be as you state and the gearbox :)

Good news, no recalls outstanding :D

Only thing showing on OASIS is Arnold Clark fitted an alternator wiring loom at 75460 miles on 30/01/2008 :)

Pictures are easy :D

I havent got a clue how to do the 'click this link' bit  so go to the forum index, go to the bottom and look for the 'problems, help & instructions' title, click it and look at the 4th thread from the top 'pictures - photobucket instructions' where Luke has done a 'how to' :D
