cat removing

Postby belly » Sat Aug 09, 2008 9:52 pm

ive found another place that will do a de-cat pipe but theyve had a look and reckon it will be near £250 ish  because they will need to make up a new flange because the cat is so close to it!!!! but one of the chaps there suggested if i remove it they can cut it open and remove all the innards  so is the cat easy to remove? and does anyone know where i can get a second hand one ? would rather chop that one up and keep a failsafe :D im hoping that doing this along with a filter should free the breathing up before i get the van re mapped 8)

iirc the cat slide out past the subframe and you dont need to drop the frame :?

cheers coconut i think it should come out quite easy its just getting to the flange bolts that look a pain :( underneath the egr gubbins ? as for mots nope not required had a 306 hdi de catted with a single box stainless system for five years never a prob and has made a huge difference to it mostly much better free reving if that makes sense :D but that was easy as it was a inline sort of cat! the connects one bolts pretty much onto the turbo so it has a big cast flange and im thinking the canister outer skin is quite thin metal so if i cut it open i would like a spare just in case i cant weld it back together very well  to do a custom pipe i would need a flange maching up, as for rolling road i wasnt going to bother as the plan is only to put a panel filter in drill the airbox add a direct cold air feed to that de-cat it then take it to martin at vantuner for a re-map 8) although if i really wanted to there is loads of room to re position a larger intercooler in front of the rad, as the factory intercooler position must suffer from heat soak :? but ive got to stay practical as its my van that i earn my living with :) just wanted a bit better fuel and performance to match what it should be when its not got a roofrack and ladders on :D does anyone know a good van breakers around the hampshire area :?:

There are loads and loads of local breakers around Soton/Pompey...

Not sure if they leave the cats on in most places though

Ring them and see if they've got one, I'm sure someone could go and get it for you.
