Ice upgrade

Postby M4carp » Tue Sep 30, 2008 5:02 pm

I have a july 08 230LX, is it a double din stereo hole and are the door speaker 13cm?

Im hoping it is double din because I want to fit a face off JVC sat nav/dvd/cd/radio/dab/7" touch screen stereo with bluetooth, Hertz components, Hertz sub and Hertz amp but only after a cat 1 pager alarm has been fitted :D

Its my 40th birthday at the end of october and my family want to treat me as Ive had a hard time recently, now into my 4th month of chemotherapy for Hodgkin disease but keeping positive :)

sorry to hear of your bad times mate. the speakers are indeed 13cm, as for stereo ive just fitted one in mine with the fascia plate to fill the gap.if double din means 2 stereo's in depth then im not sure, it seem like its about a stereo and 2/3rd's high! hope it is double din tho cos that sounds like an awesome head unit. how you gonna fasten the sub down and where you gonna put it?

I think (hope) the later connects are double din which is basicly two stereo's height, I have the full mesh bulkhead which I have draped two blackout curtains (stuff from film sets) from the roof down to make the van quiter and so it hides whats in the back. Im planing on putting the sub behind the mesh and attach it somehow so it can be moved if needed, im guessing there will be vibration problems from ply lining etc and will sort it once its all in.

im pretty sure the older one is classed as double din! unsure of the new one tho  isnt the new one all tied in with the heater controls? i thought about fitting the newer one to my old one, but at a quick look it looks more involved :( i want to put a sub in mine but would like to keep the factory stereo with stalk controls but it hasnt got a lineout on the back :x so thought maybe a newer style would have? blackout is a good idea tho! some starlight would be smart aswell

You can get amps with high level inputs on them, so you just feed the speaker wire to them and power your speakers and sub from there. Or get a new head unit and interface it with the factory steering wheel controls.

Stereo is seperate from heater controls. I think most amps have high level inputs so you can plug your speaker outs into it and you can still use the steering controls with an interface on some stereos as Mike has said.

As for the starlights that could look good at night

Hi just read your posting, and that your thinking of upgrading your ice,are you interested in selling your original unit?
If so what is it ie model no etc.
My connect doesnt have steering wheel controls, its an 05 torneo connect.

No wont be for sale, I think 06 0n has a different size stereo anyway.

Waiting for my CT scan in about a month and if it looks good I will go to town on the install :D

WVman what did you install and does the van rattle?

Nice to see people are still ripping out factory stuff.
can' beat a decent install.
id say the best security for this is window film.
the type that is clear or very slightly smoked
and legal.
the stuff is so think it actually holds the glass in place if a window is broken.
about £50 a window. and it will stop someone doing a smash and grab.
If it's not broke, "Don't try to fix it!"

2 large amps ,i think 1 is 1200watts that drives the sub & the other one is 800watts and drives a pair of 6" speakers in the door & a pair of dash mounted tweeters for real clarity..ive got a bulkhead that i made from 18mm mdf .the sub rears its head through bulkhead inbetween the seats.(its sat on a worktop as ive got an LPG tank behind the seats too)..doors were soundproofed with some silver matting stuff that they use..back is ply lined ,dont rattle too much..just got home from work, first day ive had it back & i must say the bass puts a lump in yer throat & makes the mirrors vibrate I LOVE IT
