"Easy" Intercooler upgrade for '04 plate 75ps?

Postby Refined Detail » Wed Nov 19, 2008 5:37 pm

Is it possible?!

Was nosying around the engine bay of my van today to figure out best place to put HID ballasts and also checking under my scuttle panel for the heated screen wiring.

I then got distracted by the intercooler  Took the cover off and cleaned it up as it'd sucked a load of small leaves etc in over time, but surely there is an upgrade possible for the intercooler that is fairly easy to do?

Anybody?

Ideas, bits to use, pictures etc would be much appreciated!

Cheers

sierra RS 500 (style) flipped upside down so the pipes are at the bottom then the hoses can run either side of the rad (if no air con) and some new hoses made up to move the power steering cooler!!! dont know where to though maybe forward more or to the original intercooler position? havnt measured anything up it all just looks right :? a mate just got rid of a second hand forge one that i was gonna offer up :( off course the down side is more lag and i dont know how the ecu would handle much colder charge temps, ive also not measured the charge temps or pressure drops with a factory intercooler to see how efficent it is :) too get full use out of a larger intercooler it would be good if you could raise the boost pressure maybe with a boost controller as the wastgate hose could be easly tapped into as it runs straight from the compressor housing  but again at what level would the ecu adapt the fuelling or spit its dummy out at the extra pressure? i remember me and martin(vantuner) chatting and he says that the ford system isnt very good and that you cant adjust the ecu's boost controls the re-mapping is all done via diesel injection pressures and still theres the turbo to consider but thats a whole different story :D oh and sorry i will get some pics of my hid ballasts and the lights at night for you!!!! works gone mental at the mo and with the current climate im grabbing all i can

Hmmm, I had a feeling that it wasn't going to be tooo straight forward, but thought I'd put the question out there!

Contemplated driving around without the scoop on it to see what effect that had on it, but decided against that. I do quite fancy moving the IC down to behind the bumper though!...

And cheers mate - appreciated. Yeh I don't blame you for getting what you can atm! :)
