Help with fitting my Fiesta ST steering wheel

I have been looking at my ford tis manual and the information that its giving me is pretty much useless as the diagrams that its showing me look like either an earlier model of connect or some other ford vehicle

Basically im stuck at the first hurdle which is removing the steering wheel front cover. I have removed the front cover from my fiesta wheel no bother, but the wheel on my connect seems to be different from this and also different from the steering wheel being shown in the tis manual. I know how to disconnect and remove the airbag, but i cant seem to be able to get to it. Dont really want to force it and set off the airbag.

First of all i have disconnected the battery and thats about as far as i have got.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

air bag released by inserting thin flat blade screwdrivers into slots behind wheel on either side,remove top cowling first,thats what my man did,he did'nt even bother discing battery see how you go

You have to turn the wheel to, 3 o'clock and to 9 o'clock to find these slots. Quite fiddley to do, I used a small allen key to do it and don't forget to disconnect the battery aswell.

I cant for the life of me find these slots, to remove the airbag Im putting it down to my massive red wine hangover so i leaving it till tomorro.. Are they around the springs??? Do i need to remove my cd/radio stork as the colum surround will not come off completely other wise...

yep remove radio stalk (thin flat screw driver - pops off) remove top and bottom of steering cowling. turn to 3 oclock and you will see a small hole on the back of the wheel - jiggle about with screwdrver then pops out a little bit - turn to 9 oclock and do the same - its a real pain took me about 30 minutes to get both sides out as it kept popping back in once id done one side but keep at it !

Poormanporsche, I take it once you have removed the clips that this is when you would disconnect the battery? Can you remove the cowling and radio stalk with the battery still connected?

Ah another quick question. The bottom cowling two screws to be removed. but they look like they can be removed with a phillips scredriver, but they Dont!!!! what did u guys use to remove these???????

torxs bit, size 10 i think. Thats if you mean the star shaped screw heads..

don't think bottom cowl was removed

thanks james that is really good of you, but im pretty sure i have the tools somewhere, but the garage is a tip, so im going to give the garage a good tidy tomorrow before and then give the steering wheel another go on Monday once i locate the torx bits.

i ant for the life of me get these airbag upper clips to release. In fact when i put the screwdriver in the slot it feels like there is nothing there. How far are these clips in? and also is there a certain way to move the screwdriver to release them. This is probably very simple, but at the moment its making my blood boil!!!!

I think they were a inch or two in. Just stick it in and wriggle it about

ah that far in....i was not sure if they were that far in and did not want to break anything I take i will know when it has unclipped?

yeah you'll feel it pop out a little, make sure the battery is disconnected
