Water passenger Footwell

Postby Boghopper » Sat Mar 06, 2010 5:31 pm

I have now got a puddle in my passenger footwell. I have removed the filter housing under the windscreen but it was completely dry where it mates with the bulkhead. I have been under the van, but for the life of me cannot find any of these so-called drain plugs. Taking the glove compartment out, I can see where it is dripping from behind the blower motor, it also seems to be over to the left around the fuse box behind the glove compartment. I have had the covers off the door pillars to see if it is coming from the roofrack grommets, but the pillars are completely dry. There are two metal trays that sit along the bottom of the windscreen, and they catch water from the windscreen and empty it down a hole into the wheel arch, I am wondering if it is coming in under the wheel arch or something. But it also seems to be more to the centre of the van as well. Like it is leaking all the way along the passenger side. I cannot figure out where it is coming from! Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Well, I have taken the passenger seat out and all the trim around the footwell, and on lifting the plastic floor mat, the whole floor underneath the mat in a swimming pool, and it is stinking! Got some serious water coming in somewhere. Going to have to take the floor mat out completely and wash and dry it, then try and find where the leak is. Need to get the dash out really, because I cannot see up behind it -- what a scene, only got 20,000 on the clock!

I seem to be having smilar trouble too mate, noticed the other day that on top of my passenger mat, water is collecting, I just havn't got time to sort it at the min.

Heard about this before with the Connects, looks to be a common problem.

Well, I am having a good old laugh here. Going to try the Roofrack grommets and aerial tomorow, just to eliminate them. I have shone the torch everywhere with the lights off to see if I can see light anywhere, but I can't. Tomorow I am going to hose the van down and get up under the dash to see if I can spot anything. I cannot believe how smelly the water is. I am going to have to wash the floor mat before I dry it. I don't know about Ford, but if I made stuff like this, I would be ashamed of myself -- no excuse for this sort of shoddy design and workmanship.

Showroom-Valet, I will let you know where mine is coming from if I find it. Tisinthepark, I will do them tomorrow, just for peace of mind. Belly, I have looked for cracks, but cannot see any. I have had all the trim off the pillars and can see no water from the inside. If it was coming through the top I woulkd see it from inside, so I don't know. I amwondering if it is coming from under the wheel arch.

I have visually. And like I said, I have taken all the trim off the door pillars from the inside, but they all seem dry. Unless it is flowing down the side of the windscreen and going along the bottom, and somehow going back under the the screen, then dropping down behind the dash -- cannot see anything obvious though.

Right, here we go!

If I get a hose and run it down the windscreen on the passenger side like this:

Then go inside and go to the passenger footwell, and look in the direction of the arrow:

Unclip the block connectors from the chassis, and look in behind, toward the front arch, you can see a black seam, where the panels butt each other. Right on the tip of the arrow:

Here is a closer view:

Then closer still, you can see the water beads all over the place:

If I look at this while water is washing down the windscreen, I can see water oozing through the black sealer and rolling down to the floor. I am going to take the front wheel and arch cover off, and tackle it from under the arch because I cannot get access from inside.

No, It was first registered 12/01/2007. Assuming it is for three years, I don't know?

Right up underneath the wheel arch there is some sort of relay/coil, or something, this has wires attached to it from inside. I think it might be leaking there too! The water from the windscreen goes through a hole in the bulkhead, and drops right on top of this relay/coil, piss poor setup.

I had huge issues with water in the footwells last year, but that was from my own doing - I left my water tank to fill up for 20 mins longer than I needed too

Took an absolute age to dry it all out with the entire van stripped out lol.

Good luck - glad you've found the issue at least.

I don't suppose anyone knows what this is? Looks like a big relay! Anyone know what will happen if it is disconnected? I would like to reseat it, because I think water is coming through here too. Don't know the problems it will cause though.
