Removing Door Handles and Locks - HELP

Postby jldmhifxftc » Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:04 pm

I need to remove the door handles and barrel locks on the FTC.

I am a vehicle wrapper and am doing my van - Ive looked at them and unlike many others that unscrew via the door shut it seems to me that the liner will need to be removed....

Speaking with a body man - he said they are a nightmare.... any suggestions? Diagrams? Help?

Kind regards!

Hi there ,

Can't help you with regards to the handles but seeing as you wrap , can you tell me if it is possible to wrap the bumpers and arches in the 3m Di Noc carbon film ?

Been toying with the idea for ages and i hoped someone on here might have done it by now.

Cheers

You need the Ford TIS CD ROM, mine tells you in there but I can't find a way of posting it on here mate sorry, it won't copy and paste and its useless without the pictures, I got mine from a download torrent but I did see them on ebay once upon a time

don't think its all that water tight, and would be interested to see if you could get a good enough job out of it!

Some will tell you its not possible - rubber is a bit of a tough go but it is possible - you have to treat the rubber first then apply the vinyl.

The 3M is not actually a vehicle wrap material even though that is the way they market it - the fine print says the warranty will not cover if applied in that way.

I import carbon from a few companies based in Belgium, France and Italy... they look just as good - if not better and are for vehicles.

You can use a sealant on the edges to provide extra insurance against adhesion failure - a lot of work but possible.

Any other queries let me know.

Take the door casing off and remove the inner membrane. Then using a 20 torx screw driver un -screw the torx from the back of the bezel and remove bezel, then the handle should slide sidewards out from the door. The lock barrels are easy as well.Pull the retaining slide clip down to release the barrel.

I want to have a go at wrapping my connect and have measured the height of the body at around 70" but im struggling to find any vinyl wide enough to do it in one piece. Is it possible to get vinyl that wide? if not where would be the best place to join the two pieces, horizontally or vertically?

many thanks in advance :D

You need to put the key in the lock and turn the whole lock

Yes +1 as I found out a few months ago when swapping doors over.
