The RS stands for "Race Support" vehicle.

Postby zepper » Tue Dec 28, 2010 6:34 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, writing you from the US.

The Transit is my new "Race Support" vehicle. The RS can't really stand for "Renne Sport" when the 0-60 time is 11 seconds.

The motorcycle platform was a three way idea collaboration of me, my dad, and my sister's boyfriend's father who runs a metal shop. It works pretty slick.

It is 1/4 or 3/8" diamond plate aluminum and bolts into the seat lags and also the D ring lags in the back. It uses a locking motorcycle chock and special clamping tie downs at the footpegs which elliminate the need for the tie downs at the bars. This was important b/c the tie downs at the bars wouldn't work b/c they would have to pull the bike down and forward into the chock and b/c the bike is so far forward that there are no tie down points far enough forward.
Anyway it turned out well the bike is secure and solid and there is room for all the other race gear which is relatively protected inside the cab vs. a pickup truck bed where it can be easily stolen.

The transit is really a dream vehicle for me. I had been using a ford F150 as a daily driver and for race transport I pulled an enclosed trailer. Well on its best day the F150 would get 18 mpg, closer to 14 mpg around town. Not fun. It was also huge. I got a new place last year and the truck barely fit in my driveway and there was no place to keep a 14ft enclosed trailer so I had to re-evaluate my vehicle situation. I sold the truck and trailer and bought the used transit and still had money left over! The transit fits in the drive way and even IN the garage (cali has small garages)! The transit costs about 1/2 as much to register and insure and the fuel economy is so much better.

Thank you Ford for bringing it here.

Its been well received, but many wanted at least one diesel manual option. All we got was gas er um...petrol automatics. I understand ford's choice though. Bringing the diesels over here would be a HUGE investment. The US has NO small capicity diesels here in the states. So if they brought it over they would have to ship parts inventories, train service techs, get the diesels approved with the EPA etc. So it just didn't pay for them and I get that. But others have refused to buy them until they have a diesel option.

We have a forum too, not as active as yours though. fordtransitconnectforum.com check it out if you have a minute.

Thanks!

I put my left on the rear seats because it is lightweight and easy to put up oblique

If you go here,
http://www.ford.com/trucks/transitconnect/
and look along the top row for shopping tools, you can download a PDF brochure and check out all the good stuff they get that we dont.
Like on board computer, and a barcode scanner to check all your tools are on board.

Nice bike Fun! I used to race a KTM motard--they are a blast.

Yeah the full headliner is standard. And yes they are all shipped with rear seats, even the striped cargo vans. The odd thing is no one seems to know what happens to the rear seats. Its been suggested that ford does not ship them back to turkey b/c it isn't cost effective?? I suppose they would get dirty too if they reused them? So people are affraid they are being "recycled". I dunno.

Mine came with the rear seats, they call it a "wagon", wagons also get the traction control/stability control. Nice b/c you can configure it for 2/3/4/5 people depending on your needs that day.

The 2010's were pretty spartan, not many comfort features and the speakers have been compared to a pair of tin cans--forget about hearing the radio at 75mph.

In 2011 they are offering a "XLT Premium" which looks like your Tourino and really doesn't offer much in the way of premium features--you get an extra opening rear window but with no 3rd row seat I can't really see the point of giving up the wall space in the cargo area and thats it! Just the window. Ford's promotional picture shows the SWEET 18" ST wheels alot of you guys have fitted on yours, but sadly they are NOT an option on the Ford website. So the wheels tease and ultimately disapoint the perspective new Transit buyer.

Here is there XLT premium:

'Renn Sport' is german for 'racing sport' which is why Audi use it on their quick models, RS is Ford for 'rallye sport' ;)

G-man....I know it seems slow, one magazine over here, Car and Driver, I believe did a best and worst for new 2010 model cars. The transit was the worst for all of the acceleration figures and the Porsche GT3 traded bests with the 911 Turbo S.

I actually knew that Mike, used to amateur rally race an Eagle Talon TSI AWD (u.s. mitsu eclipse)--fun stuff. Most people over here don't know about WRC like you guys do and the RS's over here Porsches and we get ocassional RS4/6 Audis. All of the hot fords are SVT's, so an RS badge is found on a german car over here.

But thanks for keeping me on my toes. I appreciate how Europe loves motorsport, the US loves Nascar unfortunetly. :(
