Simplest way to charge leisure battery?

Postby suffolkboi » Wed Oct 24, 2012 1:50 pm

What's the easiest way to charge my leisure battery whilst parked up and using it?

Can i use a 240v hook up, and plug into the cigarette lighter on the leisure battery system to charge it?

thanks

If on hook up simple install a charger system and connect it to the batteries and your 240v fuse box, mine is connect to my RCD so when on hook up it charges my batteries, then I connected the other end tot he batteries

Well im running everything on 12v, trying to keep it simple. I have split charge in place, and 12v fuse box/wiring running off the leisure battery to power my Lights/TV etc.

So i guess i could run a separate wire for the charger system with inline fuse from the hook up..?

Why?

All you have to do is connect the charger unit to the Battery oh and 240v system, and all your 12v feeds will be taken from the battery as normaly, but as a bonus when on hook up your battery will be charging.

You just need to ensure that your 12v usage, in amps doesn't exceed that of the charger unit, otherwise you could over load it.

be carefull of your tv, most tv's wont take the 14 volts the charger will pump out, we just have the tv on 240v when on hook up, our van is all 12 volt aswell,
hope it helps
misty
oh our battery charger is just plugged into the 240v socket no fancy stuff,

Bare with me on this.

But are you guys talking about a normal battery charger? Or a small charging unit of some sort?

Also, would thishttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5m-240v-Carav ... 27c84cc8ee
be ok for my appliances, without any fuse box etc?

Thanks

That ebay one would not be suitable and is dangerous, most sites would not allow it to be used anyway.

You need something like this which is easy to fit and safe and will run your fridge too.

Seems like a fairly expensive solution. Couldn't i just fit RCDs or a small consumer unit in conjunction with the original item i posted?
Why would it be so dangerous?
