fitting a water pump

Postby chasnjess » Fri Mar 15, 2013 11:27 am

Hi as a novice can you give me any advice on fitting a water pump for portable water carrier under the sink unit The tap on my sinks not a micro=switch tap but just a spout which lies horizontal an turns vertically Under the sink this tap just has a piece of plastic water tube about half an inch wide attached
I have a small Whale pump from a caravan ,could i use this and what else would I need to make the water system work. Or would I be better discarding this idea and use a submersible pump. Again what would I need for this set up What would be simplest and cheapest
Thanks for any help...Bruce

Hi Bruce , You have a couple of options, Firstly you can buy and inline pressure switch which will detect when you open the tap and start the pump running. This is simple to fit and you can buy them online or from caravan shops.The only problem with this type is, if your tap does nt seal properly, the pump will run occasionally to keep up the pressure. This is really annoying at night when you are trying to sleep;
Alternatively you could get a foot switch and fit on the floor just in front of the sink and just push it when you want water.

Hope this helps

Oh and submersible pumps are fine

I've got a whale manual pump on the tap - incredibly simple but there's practically nothing to go wrong with it.

my old van had a 12v pump, truma water heating and all the associated plumbing. In reality, I rarely used it and like xjrfast points out, it would regularly re-pressurise unless I turned the pump off at the PMS panel.

Hi thanks for your reply my problem as I see it is I dont have a tap its just a spout straight from sink unit which joins the water pipe under the sink. Do you think I could wire a switch to the pump with maybe a non return valve. Sorry to be a bit vague but just a novice................Bruce
