gas heater...is ventilation neccessary?

ive got a little gas heater and dont have the windows open when its on although there are a few little holes in the door frames so that may be adequate..bought a carbon monoxide detector and it did go off when my heater started spluttering due to a bit of dirt in the needle/jet...went off when the flame was blue ish due to this dirt

YES you require ventilation. You need high and low level vents to provide fresh air for combustion, and to allow the products of combustion to exit.

You also require drop holes in the floor to allow any leaking LPG to escape.

The is no needle or jet in a gas fire. There may however be an injector.

Carbon monoxide will kill you. Don't use a gas heater in an enclosed unventilated space.

Yes, I know that opening the windows let's the heat out... But it also let's the poisonous fumes out and allows fresh air to enter.

You want to ventilate, NOT asphyxiate!

Don't bother with ventilation its over rated if you ask me.

If you add vents your only going to get woken up/disturbed when the light comes in, without them your never ever be disturbed again, and your sleep for ever

My earliest memories, as a Jewish kid in Stepney, East London, were of being sat down and given oral histories of all my family members that never survived the Concentration Camps.

It had to be an oral history as every trace of them had been wiped out, only the memories of the surviving relatives remained.

thats terrible and must have been very enlightening, I know it was when I was told by good friends and family of similar stories and lucky escapes.
