Camper conversion heating

I need to think about a heater for in my conversion,

Anyone got any recommendations about type/fuel etc

I was only going to use a leisure battery and inverter

You can't heat from a leisure battery. Well you can, but it would last minutes You could only use an electric heater if on hookup or from a generator.

You need to look at gas or diesel powered units such as Propex or Erberspacher. They're not cheap mind.

A diesel eberspacher is the way to go but not cheap, lots of people use log burners, look on tribal living co uk. Caravan gas heater can also be used if you have a flat surface for it to go against and room through the floor for the flue. If your van is very well insulated you could use the hob/oven like i do, i also have a butane heater (small butane canisters) for those really cold nights, but rarely goes on, these are not recommended forconfined spaces without adequate ventilation. I have two lage skylights with permanent ventilation, never go to sleep with it on.

Have a look at boat heaters too, iirc there are some nifty little stainless steel burners available that run on charcoal, small bore flues and slimline fireboxes.

buy a webasto diesel heater. i have two now. cheaper than eberspachers and can be found in most breakers yards. dont get the ones from the mercs as they use canbus or something but some of them are just wired in. i have a wiring diagram somewhere for one which comes from a popular car - both of mine are from this particular model and i paid around 100 pound for the heater ( im not going to name it here as the ebay prices will go through the roof incase i want another one you can PM me if you like)

Best on the market is 'webasto' they can run from the diesel in your tank, therefore no need to worry about extra fuel or battery. Start at about £250 +VAT. But watch out for banged Ambulances, pick one up that has been written off, they use the top of the range and if its under 3 years old it should be fine, they hardly need anything done to them.
