Postby bigholty » Tue Mar 18, 2014 12:27 am

ive been looking to get a 2 pole bunk bed for the transit , but the ones are either pick up only or really stupid money , so im going to be building my own , does anyone know what grade ally tube i should get, needs to be long enough to go across the width of the van and be strong enough for a 10 stone lad to sleep on ...

To span the width of the van unsupported I'd suggest steel box rather than ally tube. That way you can use it to patch up the crossmember come mot time! 1/2" or something I guess.

I have been considering one of these from fleabay for exactly the same reason. they also stay in the usable position and roll up when you want to remove it. More than suitable for 10 stones....have you seen the american soldiers !!!

Hope this helps!

Yes to the US army stretcher. Had a similar setup in an old talbot express with something similar to these, but a lot stronger to hold it up.
