Insulated Van, WIFI doesn't work!!

Postby DJ SMOG » Fri Sep 12, 2014 5:49 pm

Hi guys, I seem to have encountered a strange problem, and i wondered if anybody else had the same issue and if so a way of rectifying it.

So I often sleep in my van on a friends drive while working, and make use of his wifi, its always been fine, but since I've insulated and carpeted, when the doors shut the signal dosent seem to be able to penetrate the van!

Does anybody know of a solution, home made or otherwise.

Cheers,
Chris

Evening Chris,

If you have used any 'metallic' type insulation, it's on the bubble wrap type stuff as well as the Kingspan type then the metal foil will be blocking the wifi signal.

May affect mobile phone as well.

Try near glass and see if that helps, not glass with heating wires in it as that will cause problems as well.

Have fun!

check there are no large metal obstructions like filing cabinets recently been moved in the line of sight.

Turn your van so windscreen is or window faces wifi router.

Also, if you are running laptop on a battery (and sometimes by accident), the power options are set to minimise power usage of wifi adaptors... change them. Google is your friend.

and

place the wifi router closer to the van inside the house.

or

buy a usb wifi antenna

or

use your android mobile to pickup the wifi and share it to your computer via usb charging cable.
Livin' in me van in Portugal.

Hi Again,

Just view'd your build photos and saw the metallic bubble wrap type insulation in one.

The above post has some good tips.

As I said before Have fun!
