VIN Decode reveals build year!

Our Autohomes Travelhome, on the Ford 2.5Di chassis, was first registered in June 1991. We have all the original paperwork.
As this was a model change year for Ford Transits parts have to be double-checked for compatibility.
However...
When I did a VIN decode (on two different web sites) the build year comes up as 1989.
The only explanation is that it took nearly two years for the chassis cab to be delivered and converted.
At least it simplifies the parts issue, but has anybody else tried this?

all autohomes frontiers were built on a ford transit 87-91 mk3. The late registration date could also mean that it sat waiting to be sold for a while.

Have you got the shower tray in the kitchen floor?
