heat exchangers- hot water

Postby bigyellow » Thu Apr 16, 2015 7:58 pm

been trawling through all the old posts here and else where

why if very common in boats are hot water exchange units, inter-coolers,ect not considered for use in vans.

why can we not collect warm/hot water as we drive along for a shower at night, we are going to carry 20l or 30 l of water any way so why not hot water

i have seen them on boats and lorrys but not camper vans

Hi,
You can use a eberspacher d5w. I had one for hot water window cleaning. I have changed over to a tankless gas water heater. They are plug in n play and a lot cheaper. You can pick a new one up on flea bay for about £70.

Replaced a tank in a camper that had electric immersion heater. And engine/eberspacher loop in it, it cracked and the replacement unit was a he'll of a price for what it was. About £300 just looked it up, it's a caktanks MINI1007XT, nice units though.
Kept the old one for fixing if I could for using in our van..... If I ever get round to it....

The d5w has a little calorifire tank thing with it, copper tank with a coil of copper tube in it just plumb it in to your water works only about 15 l though shouldn't be to hard t make a larger one if you can be arsed
