Engine size

Postby yotter » Sat Apr 25, 2015 3:52 pm

Fantastic forum seem to spend all my spare time reading and learning from the posts here.

About to buy a Transit for conversion to campervan/stealth van - for a number of reasons we are looking at a Medium wheelbase, medium height van and may be able to stretch to a 2011 van. I have been advised to avoid the small (85?) engine. There appear to be two more powerful engines in the range, a 115 and a 140? Any thoughts on which? Any ideas about fuel consumption on either of these engines?

Thanks

140's best also come in 330and 350 weights in fwd as well careful on the 2011 plates as that's when the euro 5 came in and they have oil pump and DPF issues

Nowt wring with the 85ps engine ,its the least strained engine so reliability is key.I assume if its going to be a camper you dont need to be driving round like Nigel Mansell.
Had a rusty old 58 plate 85 ps swb.180 thou .most reliable bus ive ever had

12 plate limited 125bhp 260 that got nicked

Go for a 140 yes yo do not need to drive fast but as it is a camper van it will most likely to be not far off gvw when away camping
all so may be a good idea to go fwd as you get a lot more headroom with the lower floor
