Fitting a motorcycle in a gen 2 Transit Connect

Postby zeon » Fri May 22, 2015 5:38 pm

Hope I am posting this in the correct place - this seemed like the best fit.

I held off buying a gen 1 Connect as I read articles and saw photos indicating it was very difficult to fit a motorcycle inside.

What about the gen 2?

Can anyone provide more than a yes or no, pictures would help, as would the bike you put in, along with any modifications you had to make to bike or Transit to get it to fit.

Thanks much.

No. Not even close. If you're carrying one dirt bike then yes it will fit, but it's an ungodly pain in the arse moving about to strap it down and then trying to get spares and tools in there. Maybe if there were a high roof version you could get two in with the steering on full lock but you would have no room for anything else. My CRF had to be manoeuvred around the door lock on the standard roof, although the YZ missed it, and lined up straight the rear wheels stuck out the back and the bars were touching the roof. I wouldn't even attempt to fit a road or track bike in one.

We can easily fit three bikes, and more if needs be, in the back of the Transit Custom, plus tools and spares, and sleep in it comfortably. I'll admit I didn't want to commute to work every day in one, which is why we tried a Connect, but the Custom is nicer to drive and more car like than my old Skoda Fabia.
