Fitting a Flettner on a Mk7

Postby simonwood » Mon Apr 04, 2016 2:07 pm

After a bit of advice on fitting a Flettner roof vent, I've had a search but can't find a definitive answer (although my wife might tell you that when it comes to searching for things at home I'm not always the best at finding them !).

I want to put some ventilation on my Mk7. It will be sat around over the winter months and I want a bit of airflow (so battery powered not a current option). The solar vents look cheaply constructed and I don't fancy committing to a roof hole for something that might not last.

TCX2 seems to be the answer, but, will the normal base fit on a Mk7 roof. There is no section that is fully flat to take it, but on each side there is a small valley (2mm) that could (I think) easily be filled with Sikaflex where the vent mounts. Whilst I can fill the 'valley' on the outside there would be a ridge on the inside - would the plastic mount be strong enough to take the angle (will be using an extension tube due to eventual roof ply lining).

Would that work ? Do I need to go for the narrow base (or is that only the connect with higher ridges that needs that)

Anyone got a good photo of where they installed theirs (ideally mid installation)?

Thanks in advance

Simon

Just fitted my Flettner TCX-2 Monday gone. Mounted just behind the last roof support in the wide valley on the near side, will require the adaptor when the ceiling goes up

Standard base will fit as the cut out is 98mm
